Bahraich: Divisional Commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal visited a gaushala and biogas unit in Adgodwa Gram Panchayat of Mihinpurwa development block on Tuesday, describing the initiative as an exemplary model of rural self-reliance and sustainable clean energy.
During the inspection, Nagpal reviewed the functioning of the gaushala-based biogas plant and appreciated its role in converting cattle waste into a valuable source of domestic fuel for nearby households. She said the project demonstrates how gaushalas can serve not only as centres for cattle conservation but also as hubs for renewable energy generation and rural livelihood development.
The Commissioner noted that the biogas produced at the facility is being supplied to families in the surrounding area, helping them become more self-sufficient while reducing dependence on conventional cooking fuel. The initiative has enabled rural households to access a cleaner and more affordable source of energy on a regular basis.
Officials informed the Commissioner that the project is being implemented with the support of the Aga Khan Foundation. As a result of the initiative, beneficiary families are estimated to save nearly ₹8,000 annually on LPG expenses, easing household budgets while promoting the use of environmentally friendly fuel.
Highlighting the broader significance of the project, Nagpal said the model illustrates how gaushalas can be transformed into sustainable economic assets by integrating clean energy production with income generation and rural development. She stressed that such initiatives have the potential to strengthen the rural economy while contributing to environmental conservation.
Senior officials from the concerned departments accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection. She reviewed the operational aspects of the biogas unit, assessed its maintenance, and interacted with officials to understand the benefits being delivered to local residents. She encouraged continued efforts to replicate such innovative models in other rural areas to promote sustainable development and energy self-sufficiency.
